If media reports are to be believed, Canadians look to be a particularly unhappy lot right now. The recent bout of inflation and interest rate rises appear to have precipitated a specific phase of economic suffering that has spilled over into personal lives, and that misery appears to be uniform across demographic and socioeconomic categories. According to one survey, financial troubles, inflation, and high interest rates are having an impact on Canadians' mental health, driving concern about housing and food. Millennials, particularly those who own a home, appear to be the most vulnerable to economic downturns as interest rates rise on tight debt burdens and economic damage wreaks havoc on the economy and expectations. Burdened by debt and rising housing expenses, three-in-ten Canadians are "struggling" to make ends meet, with mortgage holders reporting trouble meeting housing bills up 11% from last June. If you have a place to live, you struggle to pay your bills, and
Brazil takes up almost 48% of South America. It has a population that is growing quickly, a lively business scene, and a lot of natural resources that make it a popular place for tourists, professionals from other countries, and international companies. Foreigners who want to go to Brazil for work must get the right paperwork to enter and stay in the country. But if a foreigner wants to come to Brazil for business or pleasure, the process is less complicated because most countries don't need visitor visa stamps in their passports. There are many rules about who can come to Brazil, but getting a visa and understanding the different types are easy.
Visas for work
Foreigners coming to Brazil to provide professional or technical help as part of a work contract or cooperation agreement may be able to get temporary prior residence as long as their work permit is approved by the Secretariat of Labor.
Professionals with a job contract
Most expats are moving within the same business. An job agreement is often used to get a temporary visa. You can get an extra year on the visa if you need to. For this work visa, the professional must be paid in the country and get the same perks as a local worker. Some examples are regular job benefits, benefits outlined in a collective bargaining agreement, and labor rights, such as paid time off, a Christmas bonus, advance notice, and severance pay.
Officer visa
An officer visa is another choice that companies often choose for transfers within the same company. The immigration law spells out specific steps that must be taken to get an officer visa: It is necessary to show a company document that officially names the foreigner as a manager and is registered with the Commercial Board. By the time the foreigner finishes all of their immigration paperwork and gets their Foreigner Identity Number (RNM), a new company document must be signed appointing them to the job.
The business has to show through the exchange contract and central bank records that the foreign shareholder's investment is at least BRL 600,000 or BRL 150,000. They also have to come up with a business plan that will create 10 jobs within two years.
Depending on the type of business (limited or stock firm), the visa can be good for three to five years. If you want to hire these professionals, you have two options: Since they don't have a job in the country, the foreigner will get paid for their work, not a pay. There are no labor costs with the pro labore system, and severance fund deposits are not required. That being said, the company has to pay the 20% social security tax on the person's pro labore pay (rather than the up to 28.8% tax that comes with hiring workers) and hold on to and collect the person's income tax and social security contributions.
With the status of employment
The person from outside of Brazil must be on the company's payroll and receive some of their pay in Brazil. The local contact with the officer will be governed by the employment laws in Brazil. Also, the salary will be based on standard working rights, such as vacations and the 13th month. When the officer is fired, they may also be eligible to legal statutory severance.
Non-public investors
The migration law also has rules for foreigners who want to put their own money into businesses, whether they are already up and running or just starting out. The main goal is to show proof that the foreigner has made a private investment of BRL 500,000 with the Brazilian company that is supporting the visa. A private foreign investor must not only make an investment, but also present a thorough business plan that must be finished within three years.
Visa for investing in real estate
The reason for this type of visa is the government's plan to bring in funding that will help create jobs in Brazil. For a foreigner to get this type of visa, they must show that they have privately invested in Brazilian real estate that could bring in money or jobs. For this work permit to be issued, the buyer must pay a minimum of BRL 1 million for property in cities and BRL 700,000 for property in Brazil's north and northeast. The property must be either fully built or still being built. Technical visas are for people who want to help with technology and share it. A foreigner coming to Brazil to help with technical issues or the transfer of technology must still be paid by the foreign parent company, in addition to the work situations we've already talked about. Because of this, the stay is good for up to a year. The foreign business that will provide the services and then send the foreign worker to Brazil must sign a technical assistance agreement (a covenant or a cooperation agreement is also acceptable). The Brazilian company will receive the services. The applicant must also show proof of having at least three years of related work experience.
expert visas are for people who need short-term expert help.
A short-term technical assistance temporary visa can be given to a foreigner who is giving technical assistance as long as they don't need to stay in Brazil for more than 180 days. This doesn't have all the requirements for standard technical help temporary residency, but the foreigner must show that they are meeting an urgent need, like fixing broken equipment that is stopping the company from making things. More often than not, applying for this work permit is easier than applying for other work permits.
The Secretariat of Labor has to look at it, but the time it takes to do so shouldn't be more than five work days
You can only get this type of visa if you have lived in Brazil before; you can't change it while you're there. So, you should apply for it at the Secretariat of Labor and then get it from the Brazilian consulate when it's accepted. After entering, the next step is to register with the Federal Police. When a foreigner comes to Brazil or gets permission to live there, they need to apply for either an ID card or an RNM card. Applications must be sent to the federal police department in the person's home area. The foreigner must be registered within 30 days of starting to live in Brazil, or within 90 days of arriving in the country if they have already been living there before getting their visa from the office.
